Since January 2025, we have been able to offer a veterinary technician (vet tech) service. Our vet tech, Sarah Alderson, is able to perform a variety of jobs to support the work of the farmer and vet. This is a hassle-free way to get important herd and flock tasks done to aid animal health and welfare. Sarah is also an SQP (Suitably Qualified Person) so is able to perform worm and fluke egg counts and advise on treatments.
Vet tech services offered:
-
- Disbudding – this can be a time consuming job, which is where a vet tech can help! Disbudding will always be carried out in line with Red Tractor standards and has the option of sedation, to minimise handling and stress and allow for a quicker recovery. Castrations can also be performed under sedation by the vet or vet tech
- Vaccinations –all types of vaccination can be administered to suit your needs.
- Calf health monitoring – a vet tech can measure and record various youngstock health parameters, including growth rates, respiratory scores and colostrum analysis, ready for our vets to analyse the data and provide advice.
- Mobility scoring – Sarah is ROMS accredited so is able to perform mobility scoring to the highest standard.
- Body condition scoring – to monitor metabolic health of adult cattle.
- Udder cleft dermatitis screening – in parlour screening to target treatment.
- Worm and fluke egg counts – a vet tech can perform any aspect of parasite control, from collecting faecal samples, to analysis under the microscope, to helping to administer products.
- Record keeping – data collation for analysis by the vet or recording information on the TB test.
